OUR THINKING AND STRATEGY

There is no asset class that has had to jump through more flaming hoops than ESG has. Yet ESG is hardly a corporate sop, a giveaway or CSR (corporate social responsibility), though CSR can be an ESG initiative.

Simply, ESG is the basket of intangible assets that, depending on how they’re handled, can create or destroy value in a company.

Environmental, social and governance performance measurement in a company goes back centuries in the history of U.S. business – faith-based investing, SRI (socially responsible investing), CSR, sustainability and socially responsible business, to name a few.

Fast forward to the 21 st century, the term for these assets is now ESG, though that also may be changing. While they rarely show up in the book value of a company, these non-financial assets can comprise as much as 90 percent of the market value of a company. We name a few here, some of which are obvious and some not so much.


We’ve been creating ESG value since 2004, and our proprietary BEV Platform snaps all the quantitative and qualitative pieces together. This is our wheelhouse, and it informs everything we do. If ESG can create value and/or drive business for a company, we are relentless in finding it.

Simply, superior assets should command more money.
